چکیده

We examine the properties of low-redshift circumgalactic medium (CGM) around star-forming and quenched galaxies in Simba cosmological hydrodynamic simulations, focusing on comparing HI metal line absorption to observations from COS-Halos COS-Dwarfs surveys. Halo baryon fractions are generally $\lesssim 50\%$ cosmic fraction due stellar feedback at low masses, jet-mode AGN high masses. Baryons metals CGM $\gtrsim 90\%$ hot gas, while is more multi-phase. Hot gas has metallicity, warm cool have metallicity close that galactic gas. Equivalent widths, covering total path selected lines (MgII, SiIII, CIV OVI) a matched sample mostly consistent with 0.4$~dex, depending ion assumed ionising background. Around galaxies, all ions lower, significantly under-predicted. Metal-line sensitive choice photo-ionising background; assuming recent backgrounds, matches OVI but under-predicts ions, an older background OVI. reproduces observed dichotomy star forming galaxies. primarily come feedback, reduces particularly for lower ions.

The Impact of Galactic Feedback on the Circumgalactic Medium

Galactic feedback strongly affects the way galactic environments are enriched. We examine this connection by performing a suite of cosmological hydrodynamic simulations, exploring a range of parameters based on the galaxy formation model developed in Vogelsberger et al. (2013) (henceforth V13). We examine the effects of AGN feedback, wind mass loading, wind specific energy, and wind metal-loadi...

Characterizing the Low-redshift Intergalactic Medium towards Pks1302–102

We present a detailed analysis of the intergalactic metal-line absorption systems in the archival HST/STIS and FUSE ultraviolet spectra of the low-redshift quasar PKS1302–102 (zQSO = 0.2784). We supplement the archive data with CLOUDY ionization models and a survey of galaxies in the quasar field. There are 15 strong Lyα absorbers with column densities logNHI > 14. Of these, six are associated ...

Abundances in the high - redshift Intergalactic Medium

The enrichment of the intergalactic medium (IGM) with heavy elements provides us with a record of past star formation and with an opportunity to study the interactions between galaxies and their environments. We summarize current data analysis methods and observational constraints on abundances in the diffuse, high-redshift (z > 2) IGM. This review is targeted at interested outsiders and attemp...

Metal-enriched, sub-kiloparsec gas clumps in the circumgalactic medium of a faint z = 2.5 galaxy

We report the serendipitous detection of a 0.2 L∗, Lyα emitting galaxy at redshift 2.5 at an impact parameter of 50 kpc from a bright background QSO sightline. A high-resolution spectrum of the QSO reveals a partial Lyman-limit absorption system (NHI = 1016.94±0.10 cm−2) with many associated metal absorption lines at the same redshift as the foreground galaxy. Using photoionization models that ...

Ultraviolet Line Emission from Metals in the Low-redshift Intergalactic Medium

We use a high-resolution cosmological simulation that includes hydrodynamics, multiphase star formation, and galactic winds to predict the distribution of metal line emission at z ∼ 0 from the intergalactic medium (IGM). We focus on two ultraviolet doublet transitions, O VI λλ1032,1038 and C IV λλ1548,1551. Emission from filaments with moderate overdensities is orders of magnitude smaller than ...
